Movies Anywhere (previously known as Disney Movies Anywhere[1]) is a private movie streaming platform launched on 25 February 2014 by Disney. Prior to 2018,[2] the service allowed users to watch digital copies of their Disney, Pixar, or Marvel DVDs.[1] Currently the service allows users to connect their streaming accounts to watch purchased movies on one application, offering a consolidated library that aggregates movie purchases from various online retailers. Users have mentioned Movies Anywhere offers a higher bit-rate for streaming compared to other vendors.[3][citation needed - Low-quality citation (28 August 2026)]

User freedom
[edit | edit source]Unless the account owner manually intervenes, the updated TOS[4] will apply and the users will be bound by an arbitration agreement. In addition Movies Anywhere stipulates that "You may not and agree not to redeem an unauthorized, expired, invalid, or used digital code...", thereby allowing the company to remove content which it has deemed to meet that criteria.[citation needed] It is worth noting that in 2017, Disney filled a copyright claim against Redbox for their service that offered digital codes of their films for purchase.[5]
Incidents
[edit | edit source]Automatic opt-in to ToS change
[edit | edit source]
Movies Anywhere notified users[when?] of an opt-out change in their Terms of Service (TOS). As per the e-mail, the user is already opted into a new updated agreement and will be under those conditions effective as of 12 June 2024.
